Having a healthy BMI is important because people who are outside of the health BMI range could have disease or health risk factors. Believe it or not, only a little less than half of Americans actually have a healthy BMI.

For an adult, the ideal BMI range is 18.5 to 24.9. These people have normal weight. But, having a BMI over 24.9 is considered overweight and anything under 18.5 is categorized as underweight. For children having a BMI between the 5th and 8th percentile is still considered a healthy

Can I still be healthy even though my BMI is high?
You still can be healthy even though your BMI is unhealthy. The BMI Formula and BMI Calculator does have its limits on measuring a persons BMI. Don’t forget that measuring your BMI does not factor in the underestimate of body fat that is in older people or in others who have lost muscle or the overestimate that muscular built people or athletes have.

If you have a high BMI and have concerns, please consult with a doctor or check out obesity health problems.

BMI stands for Body Mass Index and is a tool that measures the amount of body fat you have. BMI is based on your height and weight and is very easy to calculate your own BMI yourself.

To calculate your BMI you must know your height in inches and your weight. Once you find out those you can calculate your BMI by taking your weight and multiplying it by 703 (your weight x 703) then taking your height and multiplying it by its self(your height x your height). Once you have those to numbers you do take the weight total after multiplying and dividing it by your height total.

For example:

Weight: 115 (703 X 115) = 80,845

Height: 66 Inches (66 X66) = 4,356

BMI(Body Mass Index) = 80,845 / 4,356 = 18.6 is the BMI

Interpreting your BMI is easy! If you have a BMI of 18.5 or below you are classified as underweight. Having a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 you have a normal weight. Having 25 to 29.9 BMI index means you are in the overweight category and anything 30 and over is classified obese.
